The play
Dennis is drowning in the pretensions and aspirations of the bottom rungs of the suburban middle class ladder. As he climbs the walls of his blandly furnished prison he dreams of escape from his Tupperware nightmare. Then, amidst his bursts of sarcastic wit, he realizes salvation is at hand: a slip road on the A6.
Set in the lounge of a dormer bungalow somewhere up north this sharp comedy is a fine example of socially observant humour.
Willy Russell is a celebrated playwright with some major productions behind him including Educating Rita, Blood Brothers and Shirley Valentine to name a few.
