The play
This splendid play is full of fun but it does include some “adult” issues. Committee protocol gives way to bickering and gossip, as we begin to see the personalities of those present at the summer fete committee of a typical British village as it meets on a cold January night to discuss arrangements for that year’s fete. Thus the tip of the iceberg is presented, but it is during and after the fete, that the secrets and agendas of “ordinary” people unravel. Six months on and much has happened to everyone and not all of it predictable! The cathartic events of the fete are related with humour and pathos and the upbeat ending affirms the enduring value of village life

Thankyou all so much for the invitation to attend Day of Reckoning, the warm welcome and the hospitality and such a lovely evening.  We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.  I thought the show was imaginatively ditrected – not an easy job; I have directed it myself!  And the entire cast gave such superb performances.  They listened to the other characters – rare in itself – and timed their laughs beautifully.  Always difficult having rehearsed without an audience.  It was apparent that much thought and care had gone into the entire production.  I wish I could have sat the whole cast down and praised them individually.  But maybe it’s a tribute to you all that actually there were no ‘individual’ performances – simply a group of actors coming together and giving generous ans supportive performances.  Giving us, the audience, a super night out.

I wish you great success with all your future productions.  And thanks again for inviting me.
