Children's Theatre, STAC productions

Dancing BearSTAC’s theatre for children takes its monthly place on stage at the Swan Theatre tomorrow morning. (The Worcester News says “tomorrow night”, but it gets the actual times right: 10:30AM and 11:45AM.)

Slapup has two daughters (played by two of STAC’s youngest actors, Poppy and Abigail). The two girls come to the rescue a dancing bear from a cruel Circus ringmaster… but can they make sure it has a happier life in the future? And what’s beekeeping got to do with it all? And is a female bear-disguise really necessary?

(Probably not.)

The Dancing Bear is showing tomorrow, Saturday 8th December, at 10:30AM and 11:45AM. Tickets are just £1.50.

Princess Tania castPrincess Tania and the Wicked Witch kicked off a new season of STAC plays at the Swan this weekend. The first Children’s Theatre show of the 2007-2008 run had a fun cast and a great post-summer audience, including the usual 90% of children who all miraculously have birthdays to celebrate when they are called up on stage!

Next month… it’s Jill in the Box! Anyone interested in possibly performing for Children’s Theatre can make contact through the website and your email will be passed on to the Children’s Theatre organisers.

And tonight is the debut of Alan Ayckbourn’s Relatively Speaking.

Another of Andy Hares’ marvellous sets is in place, and the backstage crew outnumber the cast by more than two to one, so it should all run smoothly… relatively speaking.

If you want to see what the set looks like now it’s finished — and discover just who lives at The Willows, Lower Pendon, Bucks — then buy a ticket! The box office as ever is 01905 611427 and the show runs from tonight until Saturday at 7.30pm at the Swan.

Relatively Speaking full castDirector of Worcester Live, Chris Jaeger, is in the Worcester News today with his regular “Centre Stage” column, this month considering the “vexed question” of art funding.

He argues that because local authorities are constrained by their budgets “they always ask what things are going to cost”, and yet the arts are not a cost, they are an investment.

[Barcelona] just shouts culture’ - and surprise, surprise, it is one of the most desirable and exciting destinations in Europe.

People flock there, and the art contributes hugely to their experience.

It’s a sound argument! And with the nights closing in, why not make next week a time to delve into the artistic life of Worcester? There is dance, drama and music to enrich the Worcester experience!
