Reviews, STAC productions
John Slim’s Birmingham Post review of Closer by STAC made much of the reviewer’s dislike of the play itself, but still lauded STAC’s production and Math Jones’s directorial approach in particular.
The text of the review follows below. (Let us know if you can find a link to this elsewhere online!)

Other local arts
Budding actors and would-be STAC auditionees might like to know about workshops being run by Enigma Theatre. Rachel Le Sauvage, a STAC member last seen directing last year’s Babysitting Calvin, is running the workshops.
Have you always wanted to have a go at acting?
And would you like to meet new people and spend a couple of hours having fun with like minded people?
Enigma Theatre is offering drama workshops for adults which give you a chance to experience drama. The workshops will help build confidence and encourage teamwork through a variety of drama methods and techniques. Weekly sessions will include improvisation skills, role play, mime, movement and script work. The main aim of the workshops is to have fun!
The new sessions begin on Thursday 8th May. Those interested in taking part can download an application form (which also contains more information including where to post the application back to).
UPDATE 4th April: There will now also be a Monday session for beginners (”Chance to Act”) held in the Studio at the Swan Theatre. If anyone is interested they can send the application back to Rachel indicating that it’s the Monday session they are interested in, which start at 7.30pm.

Closer is getting closer for Math

Personal, STAC productions
Patrick Marber’s Closer is a popular modern play chronicling the interrelated love affairs of two men and two women, plying a dark twist on the unknowability of lovers and the vagaries of emotional entanglement. Marber’s renowned drama has the kind of black humour that can only arise from truly penetrating insights into the jealousy and desires at the core of sexual romances.
Math Jones has acted extensively with STAC, and has previous directorial experience, but this the first play he has directed at the Swan.
STAC to explore themes “central to a full human life”

Newspapers, Publicity, STAC productions
STAC’s next two plays are both modern depictions of love lives, and sex lives, in turmoil.
Often dark, but shot through with knowing humour, Closer and The Blue Room stand together as complimentary twin shows for our spring season.
Closer is in final rehearsals for its run next week and is directed by Math Jones (a profile will follow on the blog momentarily).

Bob Churchill and Emily Portsmouth star in The Blue Room
Meanwhile The Blue Room features in the Worcester News today, with words from both actors in the two-person show.
